Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi |

| The Buddhist monuments at Sanchi are located 46 km northeast of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the oldest Buddhist santury in existence and was a major Buddhist hub until 12th century A.D. in India. It is a Buddhist pilgrimage centre that exhibits several complex structures of the popular Buddhist legends. The site comprises of monolithic pillars, palaces, temples and monasteries. Most of these monuments date back to the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D. |

| Among the monuments, the Great Stupa is the most famous and the oldest structure. It has a massive dome that was built by Emperor Ahoka. The Ashokan Pillar was erected here during the 3rd century. |
