Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus)
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was initially known as Victoria Terminus Station. It is a historic railway station and serves as the head quarter of the Central Railways. It is a remarkable example of the Victorian Gothic Revival architecture mixed with the themes derived from the traditional architecture of India. Today, it is one of the busiest railway stations.
The British architecture, F.W. Stevens is the chief designer of this magnificent building. Its foundation was laid in 1878 and it took 10 years to complete the entire terminal. Its incredible turrets, stone dome, pointed arches, and eccentric ground plan are similar to the architecture of the traditional Indian palaces.
