Chief Justice of India
The Chief Justice of India is the highest judge in the Supreme Court of India. This also makes it the highest judicial position obtainable by a judge in India. The Chief Justice is not only the whole and sole in-charge of the administrative functions of the Supreme Court but also sits actively as a presiding judge in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court of India.
The role and functions of the Chief Justice is to allocate the matters to various other judges of the Supreme Court, maintenance of roaster, appointment of court officials and general and other miscellaneous matters relating to supervision and functioning of the Supreme Court.

In the absence of the Vice-President of India and the President of India, it is the Chief Justice who serves as the Acting-President of India.
