Churches and Convents of Goa
Goa, the former capital of the Portuguese Indies, has some of the world famous churches and convents. Most of these churches and cathedrals were built during 16th and 17th AD. Some of the famous churches include the Se` Cathedral, Church and Convent of St. Francis of Assisi, Basilica of Bom Jesus, and Church of Lady of Rosary, the Church of St Augustine and the Church of St. Cajetan.
The churches and convents display a combination of baroque styles and the Renaissance and are generally built of lime paste and laterite. The paintings that are seen in the churches are done on wooden borders and are fixed between floral designed panels. Most of the paintings depict Mother Mary, the saints and Jesus on the cross.
