| Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi was a major political leader of the Indian Independence Movement. He was born on 2nd October, 1869 in Porbander. In India, he is officially honoured as the ‘Father of the Nation’. His birthday on 2 October is commemorated as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday in India and as International day of Non-Violence world-wide. |

| Mahatma Gandhi participated in number of independence movements like, Non-cooperation movement, Salt Satyagraha, Quit India Movement, Partition of India, Champaran and Kheda Satyagraha and several other movements. In his later life, he recorded his early life in his autobiography, ‘My Experiments with Truth’. Mahatma Gandhi was shot and killed on January 30, 1948 in New Delhi. |
