A republic is a state or country that is not led by a hereditary monarch, where the people of that state or country have impact on its government, and that is usually indicated as a republic. India became Republic on the 26th Jan, 1950. |

| A democratic republic is a body in which the head of state is elected, directly or indirectly, for a fixed tenure. The President of India is elected by an electoral college for a term of five years. The Post of the President of India is not hereditary. Every citizen of India is eligible to become the President of the country. |
