This legendry shore temple at Somnath is one of the twelve most sacred Shiva shrines in India. The temple was destroyed seven times, and rebuilt as many times. |

As per the legend, Somnath Temple was built by none other than Soma, the Moon God himself. The construction of the present temple in Junagadh district began in 1980. The present temple is the seventh temple reconstructed on the original site.
The Somnath Temple is built in the Chalukya style of temple architecture and reflects the skill of the Sompuras, Gujarat's master masons. |
